The Accredited Programme

The Accreditation
Successful completion of the Accredited Training Programme, means you will have gained a thorough general and technical knowledge of the heritage craft of kilt tailoring.
You will also understand the history of the kilt and other items of clothing that are treasured elements of the Highland costume. You will have acquired the necessary skills to establish a kilt tailoring business and, if you wish, embark on a rewarding career within a supportive and dynamic community of craftspeople who share your enjoyment of an important heritage craft.


Most importantly you will have demonstrated the skills and commitment necessary to become a Master Kilt Tailor.
Accreditation requirements
To become a Master Kilt Tailor, you will need to complete 16 kilts, each kilt to be supported by its own written Working Portfolio of Learning. You will be coached throughout by Marion Foster.The kilts required to complete the course are as follows:
- 10 Knife Edge kilts in all 6 variations
- 1 Historical box pleated kilt
- 1 Military box pleated kilt
- 4 kilts to be cleaned, restored and altered
